All you need to know about Laser hair removal at home

Sick of shaving? Tell me about it! You could try your hand at waxing, but only if you want to experience the unfathomable pain that comes with ripping out your hair follicles one by one. As you can tell I’m not the biggest fan of the wax strip. Then how about Laser Hair removal? Now I can hear the cries of protest already, don’t you have to visit some fancy clinic? Is it not wildly expensive? Well an answer to both those question’s is No!No! Excuse the pun. Laser Hair removal is perfectly possible from your own sofa, and it may not have to cost you an arm and a leg. However, I can imagine there is still an abundance of questions on your mind, but no need to vex yourself over the finer details as I will guide you through all the do’s and don’ts of Laser Hair removal at home.

Is it safe?

The good news, yes it is! And the doubly good news is that there does not appear to be health risks which will affect the user in the long term. But of course, like most ‘intrusive’ beauty regimes there are potential side effects. And unfortunately, there seem to be a few, including red, irritated skin and the potential risk of infection due to the damaging of hair follicles. My advice here is just to be careful, do your reading and if you are prone to particularly sensitive skin, ensure to exercise caution.

Does it work?

Here we come to the muddy waters of mixed reviews. First to clear up a common misconception, home hair removal kits don’t often use the power of lasers to do their magic, instead they rely on Intense Pulsed Light, which in the same vain, uses heat as the hair destructor. IPL makes the device far safer for home use, but does this have an effect on its efficiency? There is some evidence to say that laser treatment could be more effective than IPL, however if you follow a strict regimen with your at home Intense pulsed light device, the results can be just as satisfactory, you just have to keep on top of it and not live with the illusion that your hair will simply disappear overnight. Another bonus of the IPL device is less pain, due to the fact that they are far less concentrated than laser treatments. But it is worth noting with both laser and IPL hair removal that the results are never necessarily permanent and top-ups are often necessary. And to add another spanner in the works, these treatments often vary in success dependent on skin tone!

What you need to know?

With the fear of stating the utterly obvious, there are some key things you need to know before starting your laser hair removal venture. First of all NEVER use the treatment near your eyes! Another big NO is your genital area, however bikini lines are a go ahead as long as you can ensure careful diligence. And the last rule is to not use the laser treatment over tattoos or pigmented areas, which include moles and similar blemishes. Additionally, if you are concerned about a potential bad reaction throughout your self-treatment it may be wise to perform a patch test on a small area of your skin to ensure your compatibility. But admittedly safety may not be your only concern! How do you know your purchasing the best product on the market? Buying a home device will indeed save money, but it is vital to understand that it will still be a few hundred pounds wasted if it is just not up to the mark. And trust me there are hair removal devices by the bucket load! Of course there’s the No!No! which may seem the obvious choice, but with so many more to pick from how can one make the best choice. There’s the Silk’n Infinity At-Home Permanent Hair Removal Kit, the Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 Latest Generation IPL Hair Remover and. So. Many. More. Why are there SO many and why are all the names so long?! This leads me to the importance of research and to not be fooled by a tech-y confusingly fangled title.

So, there you have it, a what’s what of laser hair removal from home! But I am not so pompous as to presume that I am the font of all knowledge on this relatively new hair removal trend. All I can say is that you’ve got to do what’s best for you, and your skin, whether that’s sticking to the razor or giving a fancy new No!No! a go. And I can’t stress this enough, do your research!! But after all is said and done, one cannot deny the intrigue of such devices and the wonderment of never having to shave that irritable leg stubble ever again. I cannot begin to explain the joy that thought brings me.
